Case study: Australia’s labour market information portal

Owned and maintained by the Australian Government’s National Skills Commission, the Labour Market Insights website contains a vast array of up-to-date labour market information, including job active data, employment by industry and occupation, unemployment rates, monthly job vacancies, employment projections. Users are able to download data.

Employment projections for five years are available for seventeen of the nineteen broad industries in Australia. These projections provide a guide to the future direction of the labour market. They are based on forecasts and projected total employment growth rates published in the Australian Government’s economic and fiscal outlook, and labour force survey data for total employment and industry employment.

Users of data – employers, job seekers, prospective students, included – can get overviews of the employment outlook across industries, occupations, and regions. This means they can make more informed decisions about their business, skills they need or the occupation to train for.
